Skis, snowboards, boots, poles and helmets travel free of charge on every Alp Roads transfer. The one thing we ask is that you tell us about them when you book, because the booking is how we choose the vehicle. A party of four with suitcases is one job. The same four with a ski bag each is another, and we would rather know in advance than find out at the arrivals door.

Do skis and snowboards cost extra?

No. Our terms of service say it in one line: skis, snowboards and similar equipment are carried free of charge, but must be declared when booking so we send a vehicle that can take them. That covers ski bags, snowboard bags, boot bags, poles and helmets.

Ordinary luggage has a standard allowance. Each passenger may bring one suitcase and one item of hand luggage, and the price you are quoted includes that. Ski equipment sits outside the allowance. We do not cap the number of ski sets for a group; the limit is the space in the vehicle.

What can change the price is ordinary luggage beyond the allowance. A second large suitcase each, for example, may call for a larger vehicle, and a larger vehicle is priced differently. The booking page shows the price for each vehicle size before you pay, and the price quoted when you book is the price you pay.

What to put on the booking

The booking form has a counter called Large bags and a box called Special requests. Use both.

  • Large bags: the number of suitcases your party is bringing.
  • Special requests: how many ski bags and how many snowboard bags, and whether any of them holds two pairs.
  • Boot bags: say whether boots travel in their own bags or inside the suitcases. A separate boot bag for every person takes up real room.
  • Anything unusual: a bag much longer than the rest, a pushchair, a sled. One line is enough.

Your booking is a request until we confirm it by email, so the vehicle is settled before you travel and not at the curb. If your plans change afterwards, say you decide to bring your own skis after all, tell us as early as you can. We do our best to make a change free of charge, subject to availability. Where a change means a larger vehicle, the difference is payable before travel.

Which vehicle you get

Every transfer is private, so the only bags in the vehicle are your own. We run two vehicle sizes, and larger parties travel in two or three minibuses that drive together.

The luggage figures follow the standard allowance: one suitcase and one cabin bag for each seat. Ski and snowboard bags are not part of that count, which is exactly why we ask about them. A vehicle with every seat taken and a ski bag for every passenger is the case we most need to hear about in advance.

Good to know

The vehicle is chosen from what is on the booking. Equipment that was not declared may not fit, and the number of passengers can never go above the seats in the vehicle you booked.

On the day

Give us your flight number when you book. We follow the arrival and move the pick-up to the actual landing time at no extra cost. At the airports we serve, 60 minutes of free waiting are included from the moment your flight lands, which is there for immigration and baggage reclaim. Collect everything, skis included, before you walk out. There is no need to send someone ahead.

The transfer runs door to door, so the skis go from the vehicle straight to your accommodation. On the way home it works the other way round. For a pick-up at a hotel or chalet, 15 minutes of free waiting are included from the agreed time, so it helps to have the bags and the skis by the door when the driver arrives.

One note for the flight home from Munich Airport. If your airline sends skis to a bulky luggage counter, the airport lists its bulky luggage counters close to the regular check-in desks in Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. Their opening hours follow your airline’s check-in times, and the airport advises contacting the airline in advance if you plan to bring bulky items.

Common questions

Does Alp Roads charge for ski or snowboard bags?

No. Alp Roads carries skis, snowboards and similar equipment free of charge. They must be declared when you book so that we send a vehicle that can take them.

How much luggage is included in the price?

One suitcase and one item of hand luggage for each passenger. Tell us when you book about anything more, since a larger vehicle may be needed and the price may differ.

Do boots, poles and helmets count as extra luggage?

No. Boots, poles and helmets are carried free of charge along with the skis or the board. Mention separate boot bags on the booking so we can allow room for them.

Can I add skis after I have booked?

Yes. Contact us with your booking reference as early as you can. We do our best to make the change free of charge, subject to availability. If the extra equipment means a larger vehicle, the price difference is payable before travel.

What happens if we arrive with more than we declared?

The vehicle is sized from the details on the booking, and those details are the responsibility of the person who books. Equipment that was not declared may not fit, so add it to the booking before you travel.

Will other passengers’ bags be in the vehicle?

No. Every Alp Roads transfer is private. The vehicle is yours alone for the journey and is not shared with other parties.
