If you come to the Alps by rail, we meet you at Salzburg Hauptbahnhof, the city’s main station, and drive you to the door of your accommodation. Book the pick-up for the time your train is due, tell us which train you are on, and keep your phone on as you pull in: your driver will call or message you to agree exactly where to meet. The resorts we drive to most often from the station are Saalbach, Zell am See and Fieberbrunn. From the station it is 83 km to Zell am See, 93 km to Saalbach and 98 km to Obertauern.
What to put on the booking
On the booking page, choose Salzburg Train Station as the pick-up and your hotel, chalet or apartment as the destination. Then give us three things.
- The arrival time of your train as the pick-up time, not the time you leave home. All times on a booking are local time at the pick-up.
- The train number and where it comes from, in the Special requests box. One line is enough.
- Your luggage. One suitcase and one item of hand luggage for each passenger are standard. Skis and snowboards travel free of charge but must be declared, so we send a vehicle that can take them.
A booking must be made at least 2 hours before the pick-up time, and it is a request until we confirm it by email. For the weeks when everyone travels, book further ahead than that.
Finding your driver at the station
We send you the driver’s name and phone number roughly 12 hours before the transfer, and the driver usually messages you as well, by WhatsApp or SMS. The main entrance of Salzburg Hauptbahnhof is on Südtiroler Platz, and the simplest way to find each other is to answer that message when your train is a few minutes out. You agree the exact spot between you.
Good to know
A station pick-up includes 15 minutes of free waiting from the agreed time. That is less than the 60 minutes after landing at an airport, because there is no passport control or baggage hall to get through. If your train is running late, call or message the driver as soon as you know.
Waiting beyond the free period is charged at the rate stated in your confirmation. If you miss a connection and will arrive on a later train, tell us as early as you can. We do our best to move the pick-up free of charge, subject to availability.
The drive on from Salzburg
| From Salzburg station to | Distance | Clear-road drive |
|---|---|---|
| Zell am See | 83 km | about 1 h 20 min |
| Saalbach | 93 km | about 1 h 35 min |
| Obertauern | 98 km | about 1 h 10 min |
These are driving times with no traffic, from the station to the center of each resort. Snow and busy changeover days add to them, and we plan each transfer with time in hand.
Passports in the vehicle
The shortest road from Salzburg into the Pinzgau, the region of Zell am See and Saalbach, leaves Austria for 22 km on the German B 21 past Bad Reichenhall and then comes back in. Germany checks vehicles on entry, and the German motoring club ADAC reported in September 2026 that the checks are planned to continue until 15 March 2027. So keep passports or identity cards within reach in the vehicle, not in the luggage, even when you start and finish in Austria.
Going home by train
Every route runs in both directions. For the return, the driver arrives at your accommodation about 15 minutes before the booked time. A train does not wait and a ticket for a fixed train may not be valid on the next one, so choose a pick-up time that leaves a comfortable margin at the station. Road transport in the Alps is affected by weather, traffic and road closures, and we cannot guarantee arrival by a specific time.
